NYP Student Wong Jiong Yang Arrested for Working As Geylang Pimp
Wong Jiong Yang, a Nanyang Polytechnic student, was caught working as a pimp for 3 Thai prostitutes under him. He would keep $5 from every $50 the women charged each customer for sex.
His part-time stint came to an abrupt end when his ‘co-workers’ told on him to the police after being arrested.
Yesterday, Wong pleaded guilty to two counts of living off the earnings of two prostitutes and one count of managing a place of assignation.
Speaking of pimps, last month, a former SEA Games taekwondo gold medalist was fined $29,000 for pimping. He arranged for women from Uzbekistan to be flown over for prostitution through his Uzbekistani wife Shirinbekova Yelena.
Singapore sex industry is really booming and providing good jobs for the locals - pimps, loan shark runners (SAF captain earning $5k a month), etc.
Wong Jiong Yang may not be alone in being enticed by the good and easy money in the vice trade. Parents have to be careful where their kids are earning part time income. Police should also step up enforcement and education to guide our youth to the right path.
