Singapore Defeats China 3-1 In World Table Tennis Championships 2010

Singapore's Feng Tianwei, Wang Yuegu and Sun Bei Bei created history when they beat reigning champions China 3-1 in the World Team Table Tennis Championships 2010.
Credit goes to Feng Tianwei, Singapore’s world No 2, for staging a comeback against China’s world No 4, Ding Ning in the first singles. That gave Wang Yuegu the confidence to score an upset over world No.1 Liu Shiwen 11-7, 11-8, 2-11, 12-10. However Sun Beibei’s lost to China’s Guo Yan. Fortunately, Feng Tianwei clinched the winning point against Liu Shiwen.
Winning the World Championships is sweet revenge for Singapore after losing in the 2008 final and the Olympic final to the Chinese. China has been table tennis world champions for 19 years but we show that putting heart and soul into a task can yield miracles. South Korea also stunned China recently in the Uber Cup.
Some Singaporeans may think that China B team has won. To be fair, if we are to depend on our own talents, we can never rub shoulders with China, not to mention being world champions in table tennis. China's system of talent spotting and training regime is just too good.
The girls in our team are talented and hardworking (especially Feng Tianwei who has incredible fighting spirit) but not good enough to make it into China's A Team. They will languish in mediocrity if Singapore has not given them the chance to compete.
So Singaporeans can feel proud that it is our infrastructure, coaching and opportunity that have made this world champion feat possible. Of course, there is also a huge element of luck considering that Feng Tianwei has never won against China top ranked players.
Can we aspire to Olympic glory too? We may need more luck as China is not likely to slip up again. For now, let's just celebrate and congratulate our victorious table tennis team which will arrive back at Changi's Terminal 1 at 9pm.

Tiffany Xu 許瑋甯 Stands By Boyfriend Ethan Ruan 阮經天

Taiwanese actor Ethan Ruan is in too many sex scandals. Fortunately, his long girlfriend Tiffany Xu, star of idol TV drama, "It Started With A Kiss," stands by him.
Tiffany Xu rebukes Ethan Ruan's philandering rumors which include dumping an ex-girlfriend after impregnating her, and being the first guy to sleep with actress-singer, Esther Lau.
"Ethan is a victim. People are just making use of the opportunity to create headlines and news - they are the ones with ulterior motives. This is not true at all!" she angrily exclaimed.
Tiffany Hsu is a really trusting and forgiving girl. I think Ethan Ruan has to treasure her and care more about her feelings.
Ethan Ruan's popularity has become red-hot after successful idol drams 败犬女王 and movie Monga. It is inevitable when a person becomes more famous, he will attract more scandals. But there are just too many of his philandering coincidences.
In February, Ethan Ruan was caught checking into a hotel with an unknown woman. He has since explained that the woman is the girlfriend of a friend who joined them later. Although the two spent the night together, they slept separately. Do you believe that?
Ethan Ruan has also admitted that Esther Lau is one of his 4 girlfriends after entering showbiz. Recently, it was reported that Ethan Ruan has intimate MSN conversations with Alice Tzeng 曾愷玹 and that made Tiffany extremely jealous.
Is Ethan Ruan loyal to Tiffany Xu? What do you guys think?

However Jay's black, winged 'Batmobile' was only shipped to Taiwan this year. The singer-songwriter could only mumble helplessly, "I hope new artistes will relook at their values, and not behave like this."
[Xin MSN]

Jay Chou is caught in too many scandals recently, notably the claims by Devin Wu that she lost her virginity to Jay Chou before he became famous.
Now another Taiwan celeb has used Jay Chou's name to seek publicity. This is not an ethical way to become famous. Is this becoming the norm for Taiwan entertainment industry?

Donnei Yen's Wife Cissy Wang (汪诗诗) Admits Miscarriage Reports

Donnie Yen's wife, Cissy Wang (汪诗诗), who was present with her younger sister and mother at a press conference for skin care product, admitted to earlier miscarriage reports.
The 29-year-old Hong Kong socialite and former winner of Miss Chinese Toronto Pageant 2000 also revealed that she was bleeding continuously for a month long and only realized it was an ectopic pregnancy after consulting with doctors.
Lucky for Cissy Wang, a doting Donnie took leave from the production team to accompany her through this difficult time.
I guess Donnie Yen is staying true to the character in Ip Man. Besides doting on Cissy Wang, he has reportedly insured each of his limbs for HK$100 million and made her the beneficiary of the policies.

Singapore 1st World Country but not 1st World Wages
For years, companies have creamed off a larger share of economic gains - larger than those in other developed countries or industrialising economies in Asia.
As a result, workers get a slice of Singapore's gross domestic product (GDP) that is considered unusually small compared with their counterparts' share in those countries.
Workers' wages account for less than half of Singapore's GDP. In contrast, wages take up more than half of GDP in developed countries.
Source: AsiaOne
Finally a report which has workers' interest at heart. I wonder if bosses are reading this article or they turn a blind eye? US wages is 58% of GDP so if we want to be world class, must follow their example mah.
But to be fair, the economy is just recovering and still a lot of uncertainties. Will you dare to be a hero and ask your boss for salary increment next month?

Woman Offers Sex To Pay For Engagement
BERITA Minggu reported on a young divorcee who frequented a Kuala Lumpur restaurant to offer sex to male customers to finance her upcoming engagement.
The woman, who identified herself as Ma, said she asked for RM100 (S$43.80), not inclusive of hotel room charges, from each client who wanted to have sex with her at a nearby hotel.
Ma, who started "operating" since April, has an average of two to five clients a day, with lunchtime being the peak hour.
Source: AsiaOne
RM 100 per client, that means she needs to service 30 men to pay for the $3000 engagement. Unless she wants to earn more money for the honeymoon and house deposit too.
Proving that you love your partner by offering sex to others is a bit extreme. I don't know if you can call this act love. After all, an engagement is just a formality..

Wonder Girls Ill-Treated By JYPE?

According to an ex-English tutor (Daniel Gauss), the popular Korean pop group, Wonder Girls, were ill-treated by their management company JYPE.
Gauss claimed that the Wonder Girls had no insurance converage in US and they were not allowed to leave the JYPE building without permission.
Behind the superstardom and sunny smiles, the Wonder Girls may be living a harsh life with little freedom.
I am not sure if the Wonder Girls are ill-treated or these are common practices in the entertainment industry. Given how competitive the Korean entertainment scene is, maybe it is just a small price to pay for fame.

Eew.. Cockroach At Kentucky Fried Chicken

Recently, a cockroach was found eating a french fry at one of Kentucy Fried Chicken (KFC) busiest UK branch. For that safety infringement, KFC was fined almost S$40,000.
Next time you sink your teeth into the juicy chicken at KFC, it is safer to check around for any unwelcome intruders!
I think Singapore hygiene standards is quite good but you can never be sure. The Indian rojak at Geylang was a freak food poisoning incident but still claimed two lives.
Better be safe than sorry...

Look at how this enraged youth Afiz assaulted a female schoolmate. Very shocking video leh...
Not only is Afiz verbally abusing the girl and slapping her around, he also slammed her head against the wall. All these just because he thought the girl had snitched on him to the teacher.
To add insult to injury, this Afiz beats girl video gets uploaded on the net. Are our kids so violent these days? Is it cool or masculine to hit a girl?
I think the principal and disciplinary master have to take action to stop these kind of bullying.

Sentosa Sees 30% Surge In Visitors
Sentosa saw a 30% surge in visitors from February to April this year, thanks to new attractions such as Universal Studios Singapore and Resorts World Sentosa.
Other attractions like the Merlion and the Images of Singapore are enjoying renewed interest too.
Sentosa said the good performance can also be attributed to the turnaround in the economy and it said that within the next five years, it's projecting guest arrivals to more than double.
Source: CNA
In the past, a lot of famous attractions in Sentosa fail. Maybe because everything is man-made, hence once the novelty wears off, nobody is interested in spending money there.
Now with the Resorts World Sentosa and Universal Studios, I think the strong visitor numbers can continue. Why?
Singaporeans like to gamble mah, if casino also cannot make it in Sentosa, then really gone case liao.

Cyndi Wang 王心凌 MIA After Virginity Scandal

Cyndi Wang has gone MIA after canceling a campus event and postponing a song recording, in the wake of ex-lover Wing Fan 范植伟 exposing their intimate photos and details of their relationship.
So far, the sweet-looking singer has evaded the media, including staying home for 66 hours immediately after the incident. She would only be appearing on 14 May for a Teresa Teng memorial concert in Sichuan.
Wing Fan had revealed in a no-holds-barred interview that he was "disappointed" that Cyndi Wang was not a virgin at the tender age of 17, when she started dating him. He suspected that Cyndi has given her virginity to previous boyfriend Edward Ou but the latter denied his accusations.
Wing Fan was subsequently slammed by the public for the tasteless behaviour and for leveraging on her as publicity for himself. He had apologized to Cindy as well as admitting that he has a psychiatric condition.
On the scandal, Cyndi wrote, "I thought I could preserve a little piece of a beautiful memory, escape a bad love affair, and that everything will blow over. It turns out that I have to face both the good and bad parts of a relationship. I will not be left off even if I forget everything."

Jang Dong Gun (张东健) and Go So Young (高素英) Wedding

Fans of Jang Dong Gun 张东健 may think this is a scene out of a Korean melodrama but this is real.
Veteran Korean actor Jang Dong Gun 张东健 and Go So Young 高素英 were married today. Their hugely anticipated wedding ceremony was held at the Shilla Hotel with about 500guests (mostly A-list stars) in attendance.
After the wedding, the couple will spend their first night as husband and wife in the presidential suite and then fly off to Bali, Indonesia for their honeymoon.
Don't the pair look absolutely charming? The bride exudes elegance while the groom is so dashing, just like those lead roles he plays in Korean dramas.
By the way, it was revealed last month that Go So Young is carrying Jang Dong Gun’s baby so it is indeed a double happiness for the couple.
