YOG Meals: Singapore Volunteers vs Athletes and Officials

I was a bit appalled to see the food served to our volunteers for the Youth Olympic Games. White rice, six long beans and a piece of meat!

Shouldn't our kids who are standing in the hot sun be given more vegetables in their meals? How much more costly will it be if the caterer (Singapore Food Industries) add in more veggies besides the six long beans?

Judging by the adverse comments on the quality of food, this will do the reputation of SFI and SATS no good at all.

It is unbecoming of a world class nation hosting a world class event to be so stingy to the volunteers who sacrifice their time. Whether the volunteers have participated willingly or been forced to do so is another matter though.

If you look at the food which are served to foreign athletes and officials, it is a sharp contrast.

Since the caterer is buying and cooking in bulk and there will surely be extra food in events like these, why can't our volunteers eat the same food as the YOG guests?

PM Lee Hsien Loong call on Singaporeans to impress with our spirit and make the games memorable for the visitors.

If the volunteers have better food to boost their morale, I am sure they will be more willing to smile, cheer and put up a good show.
