Major Earthquake Hits Taiwan
A major earthquake, measuring 6.4 magnitude, struck Taiwan on Saturday night, causing injuries and damages in the capital of Taipei.
Incidentally, the 53rd Asian Pacific Film Festival was held in Taiwan and the tremors caused panic amongst the guests.
Buildings shook in the capital for several seconds after the quake struck. Falling debris injured at least four people while Taipei’s subways and high speed railroad was disrupted.
Fortunately, there was little property damage and injuries. I still remember the terrible scenes of Taiwan's 921 earthquake in 1999 which caused buildings to collapse, roads heaving, and more then 2000 causalities.
Taiwan has been ravaged by a lot of natural disasters in the last few years, from typhoons to earthquakes. Closer to home, Phillipines was also hit by 3 typhoons this year and the Mayon volcano is about to erupt soon.
Is that an indication of things to come - more natural disasters and extreme weather in the world we live in? What do you guys think?
